One lucky student of a Rockland County Catholic school will be meeting Pope Francis this week.
Albertus Magnus High School senior Patrick McAvoy was selected to meet the pontiff during his New York visit.
Administrators at all 12 high schools within the archdiocese were contacted over the summer and asked to choose a student who best represents their school to meet Pope Francis.
"Patrick, over his time here at Albertus Magnus, has been a leader academically, athletically and spiritually," says Principal Christopher Power.
The 17-year-old serves as a eucharistic minister in the school's chapel and as a goalie on the varsity soccer team.
When it comes to meeting the pope, McAvoy has just one request of him.
"I'd definitely ask a prayer for our athletic director Joe McGuinness," he says. "He's battling cancer right now. It'd be really great to get a prayer in for him."
McAvoy also says he would like to give the pope a book filled with prayers from teachers and fellow students.
