Rockland County still does not have a representative on the MTA board since it was vacated in June 2023, when Frank Borelli resigned.

This means there was no representation during the latest congestion pricing developments.

It's been just as long since Rockland County Executive Ed Day nominated Neil Cosgrove, who has taken the rail line from Rockland into New York City for decades.

In a letter sent to Gov. Kathy Hochul this week, County Executive Day says Cosgrove's appointment "would ensure that Rockland's concerns are not only heard but effectively championed."

The process for a MTA board seat involves the governor nominating members based on a county executive's three recommendations then the state senate would confirm.

In an interview with News 12 on Thursday, Cosgrove shared information on the other two people, adding one person died and the other has moved away.

"One of the reasons I am not being selected is that I am going to be a challenging voice, and I think maybe, that's why I'm not being selected is because I would disrupt the harmony of the group think," he says.

“Last year, we attempted to appoint one of the county’s recommendations. That person was unresponsive and legislative session then ended. With a new session now underway, we are happy for County Executive Day to submit three names again," said a spokesperson for the governor.

State Sen. Bill Weber, who represents much of Rockland, says he wants Gov. Hochul to appoint Cosgrove.

Rockland's representative shares a single vote with Dutchess, Orange and Putnam counties.
