News 12 has confirmed the Rockland County Legislature met with the county executive Monday morning to discuss taking over the Building Department in Spring Valley.

The meeting follows orders from the state handed down last week to the village to begin a 90-day transition of the Building Department to the county.

In the directive, the state called the village's deficiencies in its code enforcement a "critical threat to the health, safety and welfare of residents."

News 12 is told the county is now creating a division that would oversee the Building Department and is drafting a law that would set the fine and fee structure.
