The release of several documents related to the deadly Evergreen Assisted Living Facility fire by the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office is being criticized by some residents in the county.
The fatal March 2021 incident resulted in the deaths of Spring Valley firefighter Jared Lloyd and resident Oliver Hueston.
A link to the documents included photos of the bodies of the deceased. That link has since been changed.
Kristen Ross, of Bardonia, is the creator of a Facebook page and petitions seeking District Attorney Tom Walsh to resign following last month’s plea deal offered to Nathaniel and Aaron Sommer. She wants justice for Lloyd, who died while saving people from the facility.
"It really upset me. Every time I look at Jared's face, I think…he’s a father, he's a son, he's somebody's best friend. He's a person."
Ross says she would like to see Mike Diederich as a write-in candidate for district attorney.
News 12 reached out to Diederich who said a successful write-in campaign would be “quite extraordinary” and he would “graciously and humbly accept the office" if elected.
News 12 has not heard back from the district attorney's office for comment about why they released the documents. According to their post, they say any comment before the Sommers’ September sentencing is inappropriate.
