Rockland County Executive Ed Day has declared a state of emergency this afternoon.
Day says that all public and private schools will close for two weeks. All public schools will close tonight at midnight while private school will close starting Tuesday at midnight. He says secondary education institutions will also be closed, but that dorms can remain open if students have no place to go.
Day also has instituted a hoarding protection order to stop people from hoarding critical supplies.
Day says that people who have tested positive for the virus will face Class B misdemeanor charges if they don’t self-quarantine. This mean violators could be subject to three months in jail or $500 fines.
Rockland County is the latest county to declare a state of emergency. Putnam County already has one in effect, and Westchester County will declare one later today.
