A union that represents professors at Rockland Community College says they are victims of bank fraud.
The part-time professors and others from the union stood outside of a Key Bank on Route 59 near Hemion Road in Suffern after tens of thousands of dollars were taken from their account from an alleged fraudulent wire transfer.
Gina Liberti, president of Rockland Community College's Adjunct Faculty Assocation, was at the rally, but did not say much to News 12 because both the FBI and the Rockland Sheriff's Office are looking into it.
The union's main frustration is with the bank's response because they feel nothing has been done to help them since.
"The bottom line is, if I use my credit card and I have a $200 charge, they are going to stop it and say, 'is this authorized?' Here was a multi, tens of thousands dollar move, electronically, and nobody thought to ask a question?" Liberti said.
The money in their accounts comes from union dues and goes to support things like legal fees and workshops they attend. They're without a lot of money now until something is done.
