New Rochelle native Ray Rice will reportedly argue the NFL viewed an edited tape as one of the chief arguments during the appeal of his suspension.
Rice will reportedly argue that not only is the NFL punishing him twice for the same incident, which is against NFL player union rules, but also that TMZ Sports edited the elevator video, altering what really happened that night.
The video, released by TMZ Sports from inside a casino elevator, shows Rice punching his then-fiancée, now wife, Janay Palmer, and knocking her unconscious. Rice is also seen dragging her out of the elevator.
Several months earlier, Rice received a two-game suspension after video from outside the elevator surfaced, which only showed Rice dragging Palmer. But when the video from inside the elevator was released two weeks ago, the Baltimore Ravens released their star running back, and the NFL suspended Rice indefinitely.
The players' union argues the second suspension amounts to double jeopardy.
As far as the argument of edited video, TMZ officials are not denying the video is edited. They say the original raw video was jerky so they removed some frames to "smooth out" the video. They say they also made that point clear in their original post in which they showed both the edited and unedited versions.
