Ribbon-cutting ceremony held to mark Tarrytown Lighthouse $3.4 million restoration

New life was given to the historic lighthouse Thursday at Kingsland Point Park in Sleepy Hollow.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer led a special ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Tarrytown Lighthouse.
The ceremony marked the completion of a $3.4 million capital project that revilitized the lighthouse which was built back in 1883.
The lighthouse was considered obsolete and taken out of service in 1961 when the Tappan Zee Bridge was built.
Thanks to this state project, the lighthouse will now be open for the enjoyment of both current and future generations.
"We want to say thank you again for everyone who made this possible, and the opportunity for everyone who visits Sleepy Hollow or Tarrytown to walk through what has never been accessible for 100 years," said Sleepy Hollow Mayor Martin Rutyna.
The ceremony also coincides with the Village of Sleepy Hollow's 150th anniversary.
