A controversial resolution to condemn an international movement that boycotts Israel will be taken up by a committee of the Westchester County Legislature.
County Legislators Michael Kaplowitz and James Maisano are proposing the Anti-BDS movement resolution.
It condemns the BDS movement, which supports boycotts, divestment and sanctions on Israel in an effort to push Israel to give Palestinians equal rights.
The proposed resolution would affirm Westchester County rejects the BDS movement, stating that it undermines Israel, a vital ally of the U.S.
Supporters of the resolution say it's necessary to show support for Israel. Opponents say it's an attack on freedom of speech.
WESPAC, a White Plains-based political action group, says the resolution politicizes a human-rights issue.
The resolution is expected to be discussed and possibly approved by the committee Monday morning.
If that happens, it will go before the full board on June 19 for debate.
