Some Throgs Neck homeowners complain the city is taking too long to finish a sewer project, leaving them to wallow in weeds and mud.

The city started work on the Hammond Cove sewer project in 2005 to prevent flooding in the area. While the pipe work was completed in spring of 2006, Miles Avenue residents are still dealing with mud and weeds rather than grass.

"It looks like a jungle," said Nilda Rivera. "We were promised sod." According to neighbors, the city's Department of Design and Construction was supposed to plant sod shortly after the work was done.

A council member who represents the area said the DDC told him it would plant sod this October. However, residents argue that's too late since fall is approaching.
