The anticipation of Hurricane Florence has Mamaroneck residents on heightened alert due the risk of flooding issues in low-lying parts of the area.
The Long Island Sound was rough and choppy on Monday afternoon, and some streets in Mamaroneck were already under water.
Longtime residents of the town say even though they may be used it, it doesn't mean they're not concerned.
"It scares the heck out of me. It's one of the reasons why we're leaving this house specifically. I'm afraid," said one resident.
A mandatory evacuation order was issued for residents living along the entire South Carolina coast due to the hurricane.  There is no word yet if the hurricane will make it this far north, but if it does, low-lying areas along the Sound Shore are always at risk.
Although the Sound is rising, Mamaroneck has not issued any warning to residents yet.
Resident Anna Marias Santorelli says she is most concerned about her boat and wondering if now is the best time to take it out of the water.
"Of course we're always concerned. We're just going to keep watching," she says.
