Some people in White Plains are worried about development plans at the site of an old school.
Good Council High School stood on 52 North Broadway for more than a century, but the property was sold back in 2015 and the school is now closed.
Developers want to use the property to build rental apartments, academic housing for Pace Law School students and an assisted living facility. The project calls for preserving the front lawn, chapel and mansion. They're asking the White Plains common council for the creation of a new residential zoning district.
Some neighbors say they're concerned about environmental hazards and increased traffic. "Putting more people, more traffic, it's going to make it a little Manhattan and that's not what we want," says resident Ellyn Glasser.
The concerns were expressed to the common council Monday night, with some citing environmental concerns.
"They want to build it on top of a dump site, people in the neighborhood are extremely concerned about that," says Ilene Stockel, who lives near the property.
White Plains city officials tell News 12 that any decision on re-zoning is still months away.
