Chester residents were evacuated from their homes Sunday after a truck caught fire and spilled toxic chemicals on Route 17.The acid spill was caused when the truck transporting toxic chemicals blew a tire, crashed and caught fire. First responders shut down the road for several hours, 7 miles from the crash site in both directions. Local residents were evacuated as a precaution even though the hydrochloric acid the truck was carrying did not seep into the air. The fire was eventually contained.
