Residents in Montebello are sick and tired of an eyesore home that they say is bringing down the property values in their community.
The home on Kings Gate Road was heavily damaged during Hurricane Irene in 2011. It has since been abandoned by its owner and left to rot in the neighborhood.
Jerry Waxenberg, who lives next door to the home, called it a health hazard that's filled with mold and mildew.
"I would be interested in leveling the house, filling in the pool and literally just putting up a gazebo and add it to my property," says Waxenberg.
Montebello Mayor Jeffrey Oppenheim told News 12 that the complaints about the house are legitimate and he is sympathetic. He says the village is doing all it can within the law to clean the mess up.
While the owner has apparently walked away from the home, News 12 is told the bank which currently has the mortgage on the house has not yet foreclosed.
