Rep. Pat Ryan (D-18th District) is introducing what's being hailed as the most comprehensive legislation addressing PFAS, also known as "forever chemicals."
This proposed legislation would mandate the Environmental Protection Agency to set rigorous standards for PFAS in drinking water, reduce PFAS pollution in waterways, and improve testing and labeling protocols.
Earlier this week, Ryan, alongside Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, urged the Department of Defense to expedite the cleanup of PFAS contamination at Stewart Air Base in Newburgh.
Exposure to PFAS has been associated with severe health consequences for humans, including reproductive health issues and developmental delays in children.
