Less than six months after his meteoric political campaign shocked the political establishment, Rockland attorney Mondaire Jones is heading to Washington.

The outspoken, openly gay progressive, who is replacing longtime Rep. Nita Lowey is apparently already catching the attention of political heavyweights in his party.

Before he heads D.C., Jones stopped by the Children's Center in Ossining, listening for how he can help his constituents. He says these conversations will help focus him on why he was elected.

"I want people to judge me on how hard I fight for the people of this district," said Jones.

Jones says he will undoubtedly have a lot of on this plate in Congress. Among his top priorites is reforming the voting laws and restoring the SALT deductions, but at the top of the list - COVID-19 relief for all Americans.

Jones says though he may be in the nation's capitol for work, he plans on spending a lot of time in his district making sure he sees his people and they see him.

The congressman-elect will be formally sworn in on Jan. 3 with his sister will be by his side.
