Authorities say dismembered human remains found in Mexico could be that of Harry Devert, the Pelham man who went missing six months ago.

Devert was on a motorcycle trip through Mexico with plans to attend the World Cup when he vanished without a trace, sparking an intense effort to find him.

Officials say two plastic bags containing the remains were discovered near a motorcycle in Mexico. The motorcycle matches the VIN number of the bike owned by Devert.

The Pelham graduate was last seen in the dangerous area of Michoacan, where there is a large cartel presence.

The shallow grave containing the still-unidentified remains was found almost 300 miles from where he disappeared, and officials say the body appears to have been decomposing for five months. The grisly find came after Mexican authorities received a tip.

The Deverts' lawyer says Mexican officials may have been ready to raid a cartel-run ranch where Devert was believed to have been kidnapped. The lawyer speculates that the cartel could have dumped the body to throw authorities off the trail.

DNA tests on the body could take up to two months if performed in Mexico, so Devert's mother is heading down there in hopes of finding more clues. Meanwhile, the Deverts' lawyers says they are pushing to get DNA sent to the United States so they can expedite the process.
