Red-light cameras are being installed for the first time at some of New Rochelle's busiest intersections.
Three cameras are already in place at Main Street and North Avenue, Main Street and Weyman Avenue and Quaker Ridge and North Avenue. Nine more are expected to be installed.
Police say there have been a total of 20 crashes over the last few years at the city's 12 busiest intersections.
"We saw numerous instances where people were not just going through yellow lights, but also through red lights," says New Rochelle City Manager Chuck Strome.
Drivers who are caught by the cameras running a red light will receive a $50 ticket.
The cameras will be operational April 15.
