A rally in support of rebuilding Yonkers schools was held Monday.
The rally, held at the Martin Luther King Junior Academy, is the latest push to get legislation passed that would make rebuilding possible.
Mayor Mike Spano and other city leaders are pushing Albany to pass a law that would require the state to reimburse Yonkers at a higher rate like they do in upstate districts when it comes to building and repairing schools.
New York State Education Department Regent Judith Johnson says Yonkers is too rich to be helped by the state, but also not rich enough to properly fund itself.
"It's painful for me to see the comparisons because I know these kids have talent and the intelligence and the hope to be successful. We have to give them the resources," she said.
Rebuild Yonkers is a 13-year plan that could cost up to $2 billion.
