Dozens gathered in Bronxville Saturday in efforts to save an open green space in the area.

At a public meeting last May, the Westchester County Committee on Labor, Parks, Planning and Housing approved $2 million in funding to repurpose Scout Field into a restricted access youth sports field. The committee also licensed the town of Eastchester to operate and maintain the field, giving them sole access to the space.

Protesters are calling the meetings a behind-the-scenes deal.

"There has never been any formal announcement from the public about this proposed plan," said John Torres, founder of Friends of Scout Field. "Not once was there a poster or a sign that they are going to repurpose this field."

Torres' group is concerned about the project's plans to create more parking and possibly cut down native trees, and to fence in the open lot.

Residents are also concerned about access to the open field once plans are developed.

News 12 reached out to Westchester County officials and Eastchester town officials but have yet to hear back.
