There are allegations of discrimination in the East Ramapo School District.
A large crowd gathered yesterday and called for the resignation of School Superintendent Dr. Joseph Klein. Protesters say Klein made discriminatory comments against Hispanic students last month. Dr. Klein had proposed an alternate transitional program for Hispanic students where the students would not be registered but be provided with free food and English lessons.
Some parents say they found his comments deeply offensive. "I'm appalled that an educator, a superintendent of East Ramapo schools, is setting up young kids to fail," says Betty Carmen.
East Ramapo school officials declined to comment about the protest.
