Preparations for the cashless tolling system continue on the Tappan Zee Bridge.
The towers that create the middle span of the new bridge are rising and taking shape. Also, many of the steel girders have been put in place to make the new bridge's road deck.
The construction has led to some closures, including the northbound Thruway near Exit 9 and the southbound Thruway near Exit 11 that will last from Monday through Thursday.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo proposed a freezing on the toll for the Tappan Zee Bridge at $5 until the year 2020.
Lawmakers say the toll freeze will not only attract businesses and commuters to live in Rockland and Westchester counties, but it also lays the groundwork for a toll discount for those living on either side of the span.
The cashless tolling system on the Rockland side of the span is scheduled to be activated on April 23.
The cashless system means drivers will need an E-ZPass or they will have to pay a bill that will be delivered in the mail.
