A Yonkers DPW employee has been arrested in the hit-and-run death of a 16-year-old Yonkers boy.

Police say officers responded to a call around 12:20 a.m. Wednesday for a scooter driver hit head-on by a cargo van on the 600 block of McLean Avenue. First responders found Christopher Jack (CJ) Hackett, 16, on the ground with severe head injuries.

Hackett was taken to a trauma center in critical condition and died Thursday from his injuries.

The vehicle that struck the youth fled the scene, but police arrested Stephen Dolan, 46, of Yonkers, after 36 hours of investigation. Police believe that the City of Yonkers Department of Public Works employee was consuming alcohol before the crash and was under the influence.

Dolan has been charged with a number of crimes, including leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident – injury resulting in death, a class D felony. He was taken to Yonkers City Jail.

In a statement, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano says "Our hearts go out to Christopher Hackett's family and to his friends. This young man's life was tragically and senselessly cut short. As for the accused driver, who is a City employee, the Police Department is conducting a full and fair investigation so that the District Attorney can hold him fully accountable under the law."

Police Commissioner Christopher Sapienza stated, "The Yonkers Police Department extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Christopher Hackett; there are no words that can assuage the grief of losing a child. Our investigation has led to the identity and arrest of the accused driver who must now face the consequences of his actions in a court of law."

Hackett was a student at Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains and school officials say grief counselors will be available until 3 p.m. today and also on Monday and Tuesday.
