A Poughkeepsie High School senior and basketball star was gunned down just hours after winning a big game.

Caval Haylett, 18, and another teen were shot as they walked down a street with a group of people on Wednesday. He died at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital Thursday afternoon. The other teen was treated and released.

Police say that Haylett was not the intended target. Haylett was returning home from Our Lady of Lourdes High School, where he scored 21 points and was named MVP in the Dutchess County all-star game.

There have been no arrests in the case yet.
