Port Jervis councilman pleads not guilty to stealing more than $1,000 from school district

Regis Foster, 43, was arrested by state police in November after authorities say he “knowingly and intentionally stole” money meant for home instruction last school year.

A Port Jervis councilman and social studies teacher pleaded not guilty yesterday to charges he stole more than $1,000 from the school district. 
Regis Foster, 43, was arrested by state police in November after authorities say he “knowingly and intentionally stole” money meant for home instruction last school year. 
The case was assigned to a Rockland County prosecutor due to the conflict of interest in Orange County.
Regis remains on the Port Jervis City Council, and has been reassigned to administrative duty within the Port Jervis School District until the outcome of criminal case. 
His attorney tells News 12 that Regis is a “pillar of the community“ who will prove his innocence in court
