A fulfilling initiative is underway in Port Chester in which students help fill the plates of others by getting their hands dirty.
Students at Port Chester Middle School took advantage of Wednesday's sunshine by planting, picking and sampling the crops from inside their organic garden.
The garden is part of the Lead4Change Student Leadership Program. This year, 33 schools around the nation are recognized for their community service as certified Lead for Change schools. Port Chester Middle School is the lone recipient in New York.
"We're actually doing something good for the world, because we're helping others and being outside here is also calming because you get fresh air," says Kely Roque, a student.
The food from the garden goes right to those less fortunate, including at the Caritas of Port Chester Soup Kitchen.
Lead4Change attracts more than 1.5 million students in schools across the country who are interested in addressing specific needs on a local or global scale.
