Police and community members are coming to the defense of a local sergeant who was recently accused of raping a 17-year-old girl, saying he is innocent until proven guilty.
News 12 Westchester reported an investigation into the case was underway on Wednesday. The investigation stemmed from allegations that Sergeant David Rodriguez raped a 17-year-old girl while off-duty on Feb. 8. Rodriguez has since been suspended without pay while the allegations play out.
PBA President Ed Hayes released a statement about Rodriguez, saying he was ?always a stellar member and an excellent employee.? Hayes says at this stage, it is just an allegation and that the matter is under investigation. No formal charges against Rodriguez have been made.
Community member Lou Hoenig is a firm believer of people remaining innocent until proven guilty. ?You can?t prejudge an officer with a fine nine-year record. It would be premature and inappropriate,? Hoenig says.
Rodriguez and his wife, who works for WNBC, could not be reached for comment. WNBC did not comment either.
