The pilot of a single-engine Mooney M20M aircraft was taken to the hospital after crash-landing the plane on to the front lawn of a home in Manville.

Officials say that the pilot was able to get out of the plane on his own before first responders arrived. The pilot was taken to the hospital as a precaution for a head injury.

“He was responsive to questions. He was alert, conscious. He walked across the street on his own power afterward,” says Manville Police Det. John Crater.

The crash happened around 1 p.m. Monday on the 900 block of South Main Street. The home is located just yards away from Central Jersey Airport. No one on the ground was hurt. But for those driving on Main Street, the incident was a shock.

“I see something fall from the sky. I’m like, maybe I’m losing my mind. I’ve been up since 5 a.m.,” says witness Bryan Park.

But when he got closer to the area, he saw the cloud of white smoke and fire.

“And I’m looking, I’m like, yo, that’s a plane. That’s an actual plane that just fell from the sky,” Park says.

Planes have crashed in the area before as they tried to land at Central Jersey Airport. The most recent crash was a little more than two years ago. A plane was stuck in nearby trees.

Mike Sena helped tow the plane away. He also worked on the plane that was stuck in the trees.

"Yeah the one from the tree, in the 42 years I been in business that's got me about the most publicity,” he says.

Police say the plane got turned around and there were skid marks along Main Street.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
