There will be an increased police presence on land and the water during this Fourth of July weekend.
Police say extra patrols have been added to the Hudson River in anticipation that hundreds of recreational boaters will be cruising the river.
The enhanced marine law enforcement presence will not only be on the lookout for drinking, but also to make sure boaters stay away from the very busy construction area at the new Tappan Zee Bridge site.
Dozens of construction platforms and vessels are being used for the project and boaters are advised to use extreme caution in the area.
Last July, JoJo John, of Nyack, slammed his boat into one of the barges at night, killing two of his friends. John admitted to being drunk.
Since the accident, additional lights have been installed to illuminate the area and an interactive map showing vessel and barge locations is now available on the new Tappan Zee project website.
All work on the bridge will be suspended for the holiday weekend.
