Police: Dead fugitive was wanted in stabbing
Police say a fugitive who killed himself Tuesday night in Greenburgh was a Bloods gang member wanted for stabbing his ex-girlfriend seven times in New Jersey.
According to authorities, 23-year-old Darnell Brittingham had recently been released from prison and believed his ex-girlfriend had turned him in. Police say he sought revenge by stabbing her on Feb. 12. The woman is expected to survive the attack.
Police say Brittingham, an aspiring rapper who performed under the stage name "King Tut," went into hiding for five weeks after the stabbing. However, police used cell-phone tracking technology to pinpoint his location in White Plains.
Greenburgh police officers ultimately hunted Brittingham down inside a taxi near the La Quinta motel in Elmsford. Police say they pulled over the taxi near the intersection of Saw Mill River Road and Hunter Lane and ordered everyone out. Moments later, they heard a gunshot and found Brittingham's body near the car.
