Police say a large, wooden crucifix stolen from the Saint Anthony of Padua Church in Morrisania has been returned.
Police say the crucifix was taken on Dec. 3, during Spanish-language services between 6 and 8:30 p.m.
Church workers say no one witnessed the robbery. They say the crucifix was present when they arrived for Mass and gone by the time they left.
The 5-foot crucifix has been in the church as long as it been around - 111 years - and is worth $5,000.
Church officials say they received a call from the nearby St. Anselm Church, and were told police dropped off a crucifix. The crucifix was determined to be the one stolen from Saint Anthony of Padua.
