With Christmas less than a week away, people are heading to parties and family gatherings, and extra police are on the road looking out for drunken drivers.
Drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols from Dec. 19 through Jan. 3. It's part of a nationwide effort to reduce drunken driving.
Drunken driving is defined by a blood alcohol content level of .08 or higher. For drivers of commercial vehicles, the legal limit is .04.
A driver who is under age 21 and has a blood alcohol content level of between .02 and .07 is in violation of the Zero Tolerance Law.
