A 5-year-old girl was hit by a school bus and dragged several feet Wednesday morning in Monsey.
The incident happened at the corner of Horton and Bates Drive around 8:30 a.m.
The ordeal was captured on a surveillance camera outside the residential area.
According to Ramapo police, the driver was closing the bus’ safety bar when the child ran out. The driver then unknowingly ran over her, they say.
The young girl was taken to Nyack Hospital and released hours later with only bumps and bruises.
Neighbors called it a “Hanukkah miracle” that the child wasn’t injured more seriously.
Nearby residents tell News 12 that the child is a student at Beth Rochel Elementary School. News 12 reached out to the private yeshiva for comment but has yet to receive a response.
Although the incident is still under investigation, police say the ordeal appears to be accidental. News 12 was also told it’s early to determine if the driver will be ticketed or face any criminal charges.
