Police say a 78-year-old man was killed in a lawn mower accident at a Newburgh cemetery.
Officials say they received a 911 call at around 3:20 p.m. about a lawn mower on top of a man at Cedar Hill Cemetery on Route 9W. They say the Newburgh resident worked there for years as a groundskeeper.
Police say Franklin Rose was riding the mower over a hilly section of the cemetery when the vehicle overturned, landing on top of him.
Rose was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
He was treated at the scene and taken to St Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say it is not clear if Rose had any medical issues prior to the accident.
Federal investigators from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are joining local police in the investigation.
