Clarkstown police say a 10-year-old child died and three others were injured in a two-car accident in Nanuet on Tuesday.
Police say the crash happened on Route 304 and West Nyack Road around 6:15 p.m. when the drivers of a Toyota Sienna and a Ford F-150 collided. Each of the vehicles were occupied by a driver and one passenger.
Officials say the child in the Toyota Sienna had severe injuries and was not breathing when officers arrived and they promptly began CPR on scene. He was taken to the hospital where he died of his injuries.
The other three people who were injured were also brought to hospitals.
West Nyack Road and Route 304 was closed for four hours while police investigated. Traffic was diverted to Route 59. It has since reopened.
People in the area say this can be a very dangerous intersection and that drivers tend to speed and not pay attention to turning signals.
There's no word yet on the cause of the crash
It's the second crash to happen in the area in 24 hours - a motorcyclist was killed after slamming into a guardrail on Route 304, north of Hillside Avenue, late Monday night.
