Rye Brook has been the site of four car thefts over just the last several weeks.
Rye Brook police have warned residents about the thefts, which have occurred during the overnight hours. Some of those incidents involved unlocked cars.
Maria Ossorio lives on Wilton Road and says she woke up last Friday to discover both of her cars were stolen right out of her driveway. Her neighbors say they also had cash and other items taken from their cars the same night.
Some residents think because their block is far from any main roads and is a dead end that the area is being intentionally targeted.
Ossorio claims that some neighbors with security cameras saw up to eight people in hooded sweatshirts on video that night, but they were not able to make out any faces.
None of the residents who spoke with News 12 had locked their vehicles, and Ossorio said the keys were inside both vehicles at the time.
"This is my house, and my yard, and my cars," said Ossorio. "If I feel safe enough to do it, then it's my prerogative. It's not a question of right or wrong. If you ask a lot of people in this neighborhood, they all leave their keys in their car."
Police say three of the four stolen cars have been recovered -- two in Bridgeport, Connecticut, and the other in New Haven, Connecticut.
Rye Brook police are urging everyone to lock their vehicles in light of the thefts, regardless of whether their cars are in their driveways.
