Two pedestrians were injured after a car jumped the sidewalk in Mount Vernon Thursday.
Police say the incident happened at around 3:15 p.m. when a Toyota Camry driven by Mamie Minor jumped the curb at the intersection of North 8th and Stevens avenues, where a 22-year-old man was talking to a woman on the sidewalk.
Minor was shaken, but not injured. She says her car inexplicably accelerated as she was pulling out of a parking spot.
"I didn't even press the gas," she says. "I just moved the gear and the car jumped forward."
Officers who arrived at the scene had Minor's vehicle towed for inspection to determine if it had a defect.
Authorities say they do not know the extent of the victims' injuries.
