Police say two friends from Monroe, who were reported missing when they didn't return from a trip, have been found dead in a car in Woodbury.
The 2003 Dodge Viper they were driving was found Monday afternoon down an embankment off Nininger Road near Route 32. Aaron Vays, 25, and Evan Finnell, 23, were dead at the scene when police arrived.
Police say Vays and Finnell had gone to a car show at the Meadowlands in New Jersey Saturday night and had not been seen since. Vays' father reported the men missing.
"We tried our best, pinged the cellphone, worked with the family. We found them," says New York State Police Department Capt. Brendan Casey. "The search was successful. Unfortunately the men were found deceased."
Police say Finell was driving his friend's car back to Monroe when he somehow lost control of the vehicle around a turn and struck a guardrail. The vehicle landed on its roof. Toxicology and autopsy results are pending, but authorities say driver error possibly played a role in the crash.
Vays' father, who was too distraught to speak at length about his only child's death, says he is appreciative that police found the vehicle.
