The Peekskill mayor called for an end to conflict of interest issues on the Common Council in his State of the City address.
Mayor Frank Catalina said he doesn't want to see a repeat of what happened with the deputy mayor. Earlier this year, the deputy mayor allegedly accepted thousands of dollars from a local nonprofit. Under the city's charter, it is an illegal act for elected officials.
The mayor also touched upon the city's budget trouble. The state Supreme Court recently ruled the Peekskill Common Council acted against the city charter in its attempt to pass the 2016 budget. The council's action resulted in a nearly six percent tax hike.
