Governor George Pataki (R-NY) told News 12 on Sunday that he found an ethics report about car service for Comptroller Alan Hevesi?s (D-NY) wife extraordinary.
Pataki said the report suggests Hevesi violated the public trust. Hevesi recently paid back more than $80,000 for unpaid car service for his disabled wife. The comptroller, who is in a battle against Republican challenger Chris Callaghan, says the state car service was necessary because he feared for her safety after he received death threats. Hevesi says someone even sent him a dead bird.
Pataki is expected to decide later this week whether to remove the embattled comptroller. The governor appointed a special attorney to investigate the case. His report is also due this week.
