Con Edison is again being called to the carpet for the company's response to power outages in Westchester.
Two state Assembly committees are investigating the response to Tropical Storm Ernesto during Labor Day weekend, and a massive outage in Queens over the summer. For more than an hour, Con Edison Chairman and CEO Kevin Burke was grilled by two Assembly committees, one of which is chaired by Assemblyman Richard Brodsky (D-Elmsford). Burke testified the company did all it could under the circumstances.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) is investigating the outages also. However, Brodsky says he believes the PSC has already decided that Con Ed's response to Ernesto was inadequate. During the hearing, Brodsky told PSC Chairman William Flynn a more aggressive approach to policing utilities like Con Ed is needed, even if it takes legislative action.
