5h agoA black bear was spotted wandering through Nyack over the Memorial Day weekend, prompting safety reminders, Orangetown police said.
The bear was seen on Haven Street and near the Nyack Plaza apartments close to downtown.
Photos of the bear were shared by residents on Haven Street. One local remarked they were surprised it hadn't happened sooner, noting frequent sightings of wolves, deer, and foxes in the area.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation advises never approaching black bears and to back away slowly without running.
