An oil spill near the Wallkill River in New Paltz drew a response Sunday from state environmental officials. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation said the oil originated from an apartment building.

Under DEC oversight, the New Paltz Fire Department placed boom on the river to contain the oil. Officials said drinking water is not affected.

DEC will continue overseeing the cleanup until it is complete to ensure protection of public health and the environment.
