High winds damage Playland tower and bring down trees, close schools across Hudson Valley

In Orange County, high winds pushed a tree into a home in Highland Mills and ripped another large tree from the ground. No injuries were reported.

Storm damage stretched across the Hudson Valley after strong overnight winds hit the region.

Westchester County officials say the Music Tower at Playland Park in Rye lost several pieces of foam and stucco. Engineers are evaluating the damage and believe the winds caused the debris to fall. The area around the tower is closed to the public, and officials say it will not affect the park’s opening in May.

In Orange County, high winds pushed a tree into a home in Highland Mills and ripped another large tree from the ground. No injuries were reported.

The weather also led to school closures. Monroe‑Woodbury district leaders say schools and offices are shut today due to extended power outages, road closures and internet disruptions. The Club Kid program and all after‑school activities are canceled.

In Blooming Grove, downed power lines sparked two fires after midnight near Mountain Lodge off Sylvain Trail and on Woodard Road. No injuries were reported.
