Legislators in Orange County are advocating for independence from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).
State Sen. James Skoufis and Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson have introduced legislation aimed at withdrawing Orange County from the MTA's jurisdiction.
They contend that the residents of Orange County are burdened with significant MTA taxes and fees while receiving little in return in terms of service.
The lawmakers highlight the issues of infrequent train service and the absence of a direct rail link to Manhattan as primary reasons for their push to separate from the MTA.
The MTA has yet to respond to News 12’s request for a response.
