An off-duty NYPD detective was killed in a car accident early Friday morning in Putnam County, officials say.
County sheriff officials say the crash happened just before 1 a.m. on Peekskill Hollow Road in Putnam Valley.
News 12 was told the car was on fire when the sheriff’s deputies arrived near the intersection with Nashua Road.
The 38-year-old man was pulled out of the vehicle and given CPR, but he was pronounced dead.
The sheriff’s office has not released the detective’s name but confirms he was from Putnam County.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
