The Department of Homeland Security and the FBI are increasing the reward for information regarding two missing Delaney Hall immigration detainees to $25,000.
Officials say that two out of the four detainees who escaped from the Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility last week remain on the loose. The FBI says that 20-year-old Franklin Norberto Bautista-Reyes, of Honduras, was originally arrested for aggravated assault, terroristic threats and possession of a weapon. It says 25-year-old Andres Felipe Pineda Mogollon, of Colombia, was originally arrested for residential burglary and possession of burglary tools.
Officials say Bautista-Reyes and Pineda Mogollon escaped on June 12, along with Joel Enrique Sandoval-Lopez and Joan Sebastian Castaneda-Lozada, who were found this past weekend.
Attorneys and family members of the people being held at Delaney Hall, an immigration detention facility, say there was an uprising there last week because of poor conditions inside and a lack of food.
Sen. Andy Kim said that the detainees managed to break through an interior wall that led to an exterior one. From there, the officials say the detainees were able to escape to a parking lot. Kim says there is now a major security review.
DHS says that the facility, owned by The GEO Group, remains dedicated to providing high-quality services.
People opposed to the facility gathered outside on Monday.
"We're out here to make sure that ICE and GEO Group knows that we are watching and keeping track of what they are doing to the members of our community,” says Newark resident Mary Rizzo.
The FBI is asking anyone with information about the escapees’ whereabouts to contact ICE's Toll-Free tipline at 1-866-DHS-2-ICE (1-866-347-2423).
