Officials with the Westchester County District Attorney's Office say that autopsy results are inconclusive in the death of a mother of eight found in a Mount Vernon Jail cell.
Raynette Turner, 42, was awaiting arraignment on petty larceny charges for allegedly stealing crab legs from a food depot over the weekend.
Family members say Turner had a history of health concerns. Turner was taken to a hospital for an unspecified illness while in custody Sunday. She was treated and released from the hospital, but found dead a day later in her cell.
Mayor Ernie Davis insists that everyone in his administration has been open and honest about the case.
"We've done everything, we've been transparent," he says. "This is what happened... this is how we handled it."
Officials are now awaiting toxicology and biology reports to hopefully pinpoint Turner's cause of death. They say it could take weeks until the results come back.
