The Westchester County Health Department tells News 12 that it received a complaint Wednesday about a rat problem at a Mount Pleasant school.
Westlake Middle School officials say two rats were seen on Tuesday: one in the hallway and one in the cafeteria.
A student who wouldn't go on camera says he also saw a rat last fall in the locker room.
District officials say the rats are coming from the woods and making their way into the building. They tell News 12 that rats got into the building a few years back while construction was taking place on the other side of the woods.
Last year, News 12 cameras went inside the middle and high schools when the district tried to get a bond passed to build a new cafeteria and make other improvements. Officials say those repairs may have prevented the current rat problem.
Traps have been set up inside and outside the building to catch the rodents.
