An off-duty police officer, who doubles as a volunteer dog rescuer in his spare time, used a heat-seeking drone to help a Port Jervis family reunite with their missing dog.

Levi had been missing for four days when Mike Coyne found the dog alive, curled up in a wooded area off Skyline Drive.

Coyne's volunteer service is called Heatseeker Drone Services and is based in Putnam County.

The dog's owners shared video with us of their tearful reunion late-last month after they contacted Coyne and Levi was rescued.

Coyne is a police drone pilot in Westchester and an avid animal lover who says he’s happy to help families in a different way when he’s off-duty.

“A dog becomes a member of the family so when they go missing, it’s like you’re losing one of your children,” says Coyne. “The reunion is that happy moment that we are all looking to achieve!”

Levi had a paw injury when he was found but is back home recovering.
